Timber Connectors

General Information

Modern timber structures must meet a wide range of requirements, including structural performance, aesthetics, and ease of installation. These expectations directly influence the design and functionality of timber connectors and fittings.

Timber connectors are designed to ensure reliable structural joints while also being easy and fast to install. In many cases, they are required to be visually discreet or completely hidden, especially in architectural applications.

Contemporary timber connectors are typically manufactured from 1.5–4.0 mm thick galvanized steel sheets, replacing traditional carpentry joints. These systems simplify timber connections while allowing for structurally calculable and standardized designs. Galvanized steel provides excellent resistance to environmental conditions, while stainless steel versions are available for more demanding applications.

Advantages

One of the key advantages of timber connectors is that the strength of the joint is no longer limited by the cross-section of the timber. This allows the use of smaller timber elements without compromising structural integrity.

These systems can be applied across a wide range of uses, from light-duty structures (such as stairs and railings) to heavy-duty constructions (such as roof structures, halls, and floor systems).

Typical applications include:

  • Roof trusses and traditional timber structures
  • Attic conversions
  • Partition walls and space dividers
  • Timber houses and garden structures
  • Agricultural and industrial storage buildings
  • Shelters, observation towers, shelving, and crates

The combination of cost-efficiency, reduced installation time, and design flexibility makes these systems highly attractive for both structural and decorative applications.

Installation and Performance

Engineered timber connectors provide reliable and predictable performance without requiring specialized tools. Many elements can be pre-installed, allowing prefabricated timber components to be quickly assembled on site.

The system is also flexible, enabling disassembly and reassembly if required. Additionally, a wide range of concealed and recessed connectors is available, making them suitable for visible timber structures where aesthetics are important.
